Virginia Memorial Library Receives Summer Reading Grant

 

 

VIRGINIA MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY RECEIVES $ 600.00 GRANT FROM THE DOLLAR GENERAL LITERACY FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT SUMMER LITERACY

Virginia, IL –June 13, 2014 – This week, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Virginia Memorial Public Library a $600.00 grant to support summer literacy.

“We are thrilled! This grant gives us the opportunity to deliver a stellar summer reading program and we are excited to put these funds to good use”, reports Trisha Scott, director of the Virginia library.

“At Dollar General, we are passionate about our mission of Serving Others throughout the communities we serve,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO.“It’s exciting to see the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s outreach in action as we partner with organizations to further education and literacy and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

The 8-week PAWS to Read summer reading program is geared towards children ages 1-12. Each 1.5 hour program will feature a themed story, craft, treat, and game. The goal is to bring books alive for children and promote reading throughout the summer months.
