The Virginia Memorial Public Library has been in continuous operation in its current location since 1967. The building was a gift to the Virginia community given by Maria Petefish Prather, in memory of her family. Mrs. Rollo Rexroat served as the first librarian.
I wanted to thank you for this wonderful read!! I absolutely
loved every little bit of it. I have you saved as
a favorite to look at new stuff you post…
To Whom It May Concern,
I’m writing a book on the history of the orphan trains sent out to Illinois by the New York Juvenile Asylum and I just learned that a company of orphan children rode what we now call an orphan train from the New York Juvenile to Virginia, IL on April 20, 1874 . They would have arrived from New York 2-3 days later.
I was wondering if I could hire someone to take a look at the newspapers to see if there as an article, which is often the case. They usually put a notice in announcing their arrival a week or two ahead and then would follow with an article listing which families took in the orphan children afterwards. Thanks so much for your help on this.
